Delhi Court Summons Lalu Yadav And Others In Land For Job Scam Case

The land for job scam refers to alleged wrongdoing in the recruitment of 'Group-D' personnel during 2004-09 when appointments were allegedly made in exchange of land parcels.

A Delhi court on Friday summoned Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and other accused in the land for job scam case.?

The Rouse Avenue Court has summoned Lalu and others, including railway officials, to the court on October 4, according to ANI.?

Lalu has already been convicted in five cases related to the fodder scam and has been sentenced to 14 years in jail. He is currently out on bail.

The land for job scam refers to alleged wrongdoing in the recruitment of 'Group-D' personnel during 2004-09. It is alleged that appointments in the said period to 'Group-D' posts were made in exchange of land parcels. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the FIR in the matter on May 2022.

The CBI has alleged that no public notice or advertisement was issued and yet appointments were made, reported The Hindu.

Besides Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejeshvi Yadav are also accused in the case. Lalu held the railways portfolio at the time during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

"According to the CBI, no advertisements or any public notice had allegedly been issued for the appointment of substitutes, yet the candidates in question were inducted in different zonal railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hazipur. Their applications and documents were collected through certain individuals and sent to the WCR for processing. Under the influence of the accused, the then general managers gave approvals. The substitutes were later regularised," reported The Hindu.?

Earlier on Thursday, The Hindu reported that the CBI informed the court that it has got sanction to prosecute three officials: Maheep Kapur, the then West Central Railway General Manager; Manoj Pande, the then West Central Railway Chief Personnel Officers; and Dr. PL Bankar.
