A PTI report on Monday claimed that the name of the Maharashtra chief minister will be announced on December 4, a day ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the Mahayuti government, after the BJP elects its legislature party leader.

A BJP functionary said that the party has named Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani as central observers for its Maharashtra legislature party's meeting, where the MLAs will elect their leader.

The Mahayuti government's oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for December 5 evening at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Following this meeting, the chosen candidate's name will be relayed to senior leaders in Delhi. These observers will then announce the elected leader of the BJP, who is set to be the next chief minister, PTI reported.

Shrikant Shinde on Monday spoke to media as he denied reports of him getting the Deputy Chief Minister role and he also informed that the swearing-in ceremony of the Maharashtra CM has been delayed and discussions are still underway.

"The swearing-in ceremony of the grand coalition government has been a bit delayed, and currently there is a lot of discussion and rumours. Caretaker Chief Minister Hon. Shri Eknath Shinde went to the village for two days and rested due to ill health. So the rumors flourished. The news that I will be the Deputy Chief Minister is being given with question marks for the last two days. As a matter of fact there is no truth in it and all the news about my post as Deputy Chief Minister is baseless and baseless.

Even after the Lok Sabha elections, I had a chance to become a minister in the central government. But thinking of working for the party organization, I refused the ministerial post even then. I have no desire for a position in power. I make it clear once again that I am not in the race for any ministerial position in the state. Netane will work only for my Lok Sabha constituency and Shiv Sena.

We can understand the enthusiasm and competition of the media, but I request them not to turn their backs on reality while reporting the news. A modest hope that the discussions about me will at least stop now..." Shrikant Shinde wrote on X.

After some locals cast doubt on the EVMs and insisted on conducting a "re-election" with ballot papers, banners claiming 'repoll on Dec 3' were placed in Markadwadi village of Solapur. A group of locals at the village under Malshiras segment in Solapur district morning made arrangements for the same on Tuesday.

The Malshiras sub-divisional magistrate on Monday imposed prohibitory orders, under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, from December 2 to 5 in the area to avoid any conflict or law and order situation. Heavy police security has been deployed at a village.

The village comes under the Malshiras assembly constituency, where NCP (SP) candidate Uttam Jankar defeated BJP's Ram Satpute by 13,147 votes in the November 20 state polls, the results of which were declared on November 2. Though Jankar won the seat, Markadwadi residents claimed he polled less votes in their village against Satpute which was not possible.

A group of villagers from Maharashtra's Malshrias assembly segment insisting on a "re-election" with ballot papers relented on Tuesday and gave up their plan after police intervention, the NCP (SP) winning candidate from the seat said.

A senior police official said they had cautioned the villagers that legal action would be initiated if they went ahead with their "polling" plan.

Although the name of the next chief minister of Maharashtra is yet to be declared, the preparations for the the swearing-in ceremony are in full swing. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been overseeing preparations at the Azad Maidan in south Mumbai.

Maharashtra Caretaker CM Eknath Shinde has been rushed to Jupiter Hospital, in Thane as his health condition shows no sign of improvement, hospital sources informed. He has been advised a routine full-bodycheck-up by the doctors.

While criticising the delay in formation of the new government and announcement of the name of the Chief Minister, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said that no information is coming from the governor's house. Rather, the sole source of information about the new government formation is BJP's social media handle. "The marriage procession is ready but nobody knows who is the groom?" she said.

A close aide of caretaker CM Eknath Shinde informed that he was taken to the hospital for a "routine check-up". "I am fine, do not worry," Shinde told reporters as he was driven to Jupiter Hospital.

Shine-led Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant said it was a "routine check-up", and Shinde would return to his official residence `Varsha' in Mumbai afterwards. "He has had throat infection, weakness and fever. He would be undergoing a blood test," Samant added.

Shinde was taken to the hospital in the city today morning for a "routine check-up".

BJP leader Prasad Lad, meanwhile, announced that the swearing-in ceremony will be a grand affair with nearly 42,000 attendees.

Speaking to reporters outside the official residence of Fadnavis, Lad said, "PM Modi, nine to ten Union ministers, and 19 chief ministers and deputy chief ministers will attend the ceremony. It will be telecast live across the state wherever LED screens are available."

Special arrangements have been made to accommodate 40,000 BJP supporters and a separate seating arrangement made for 2,000 VVIPs, including leaders from various religions, Lad added.

Eknath Shinde holds meeting for Ambedkar's death anniversary event in hybrid mode on Tuesday. Devendra Fadnavis and Kesarkar attended the event.
