The 20-year-old Spaniard beat seven-time champion Novak Djokovic 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 on Centre Court.

By doing so, Alcaraz won his first ever Wimbledon crown and his second Grand Slam title and denied Djokovic an eighth title and 24th Grand Slam.

"Beating Novak, winning Wimbledon, is something that I dreamed about since I started playing tennis," Alcaraz said.

"It's the happiest moment of my life. I think it's not going to change for a long time."

In an era dominated by the the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz is most likely to emerge as the 'likely candidate' to replace the famous trio in the coming years.

Fellow Spaniard and Clay Court champion Rafael Nadal took to Twitter to congratulate the new Wimbledon champion.

“Congratulations @carlosalcaraz. You have given us immense joy today and I am sure that our pioneer in Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, has also been cheering wherever he is. A very strong hug and enjoy the moment, Champion!!!,” Nadal posted on Twitter.
