Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar said that star batter Virat Kohli is destined to play another World Cup before hanging up his boots from international duty. On Sunday, November 19, Kohli was adjudged as The Player Of The Tournament after amassing 765 runs from 11 matches at an average of 95.62 with three tons and six fifties. (More Cricket News)

But despite his herculean effort, India ended up as runners-up after losing to Australia by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Bangar was of the opinion that 35-year-old Kohli is being tested by the almighty and is making him wait toe earn his 'gold medal'.

“The kind of hunger Kohli has individually, god has blessed him. He still has something special left in him. Even Sachin (Tendulkar) has to wait for 6 World Cups to win his first title,” Bangar was quoted as saying in a video uploaded on the ICC.

“God tests the best and maybe destiny wants him to play in the next World Cup. We can hope and pray that he gets that gold medal,” he added.

Kohli broke many records in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 that included equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record of most hundreds in ODIs. In the semi-final against New Zealand, Kohli became the first batter to score 50 ODI centuries.

The Delhi-born batter also became the first batter to register the most number of runs in a single edition of an ODI World Cup. In the final, Kohli scored a half-century as India posted 240 on the board. Australia chased down the target in 43 overs to win the World Cup for the sixth time.
