Welcome to our highlights from the Paralympics coverage on Saturday, September 7, the 10th and penultimate day of the Paris 2024 Games. India's medal tally continues to grow, now at 29, thanks to new gold and bronze medals from the para athletics team. Javelin thrower Navdeep Singh secured a historic gold in the F41 classification, and sprinter Simran Sharma clinched bronze in the women's 200m (T12). India At Paris Paralympics, Day 10 LIVE Updates: Start Time

Today's action (from an Indian perspective) begins at 1pm IST, when para cyclist Arshad Shaik competes in the men's C1-3 road race final, which is a medal event. Paris Paralympics, Day 10 LIVE Updates: Who Won Medals Yesterday?

As of the ninth day of the Paris Paralympics 2024, India stand on the 17th place in the medal table with a tally of six gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze medals.

China remain in the lead by a massive margin with a total of 188 medals, including 83 golds and several podium sweeps. Great Britain is in second place with 42 gold medals and an overall count of 100 medals.

Today, a record 75 medal events will take place at the Paris Paralympics 2024, including 22 in athletics, 15 in swimming, 5 in canoeing, 5 in cycling, and 6 in judo, among others. India will be participating in four of these sports, with eight athletes in action, fueling hopes for further success. These are the medal events with where India will hope for glory:

Paris Paralympics, Day 10 LIVE Updates: India's First Action?

Arshad Shaik will begin India's action today participating in the Cycling Men's C1-3 road race starting at 1:00 PM. He previously participated in the Men's Road Time Trial C2, where he finished 11th with a time of 25:20.11.


Also in the para-cycling, Jyoti Gaderia will race in the Women’s C1-3 road race at 1:05 PM IST. She also competed in the Women’s 300m Individual Pursuit C1-3 on August 29, 2024, where she finished 10th with a time of 4:53.929.

Paris Paralympics, Day 10 LIVE Updates: How Did Suyash Do?

In para-swimming, Suyash Jadhav competing in the Men’s 50m Butterfly S7 heats has finished 5th with a timing of 33.47s. A total of 12 swimmers are swimming in the event and only the top 8 from the two heats will make it to the finals which will be held at10:00 PM.

Jadhav is a seasoned champion, has won two gold medals at the World Games and three silver medals at the German Swimming Championships.

Unfortunately, no, Suyash Jadhav could not make it to the finals. But, he is not disqualified yet, instead, has been placed as one of the two reserves who will get the chance to swim in the finals if a qualifier won't be able to swim for some reason. The Indian finished 10th overall in the standings after the two heats with a timing of 33.47 seconds.

Paris Paralympics, Day 10 LIVE Updates: India's Swimming Campaign Ends

India's swimming campaign at the Paris Paralympics as the only swimmer particpating at Para Games 2024 Suyash Jadhav failed to enter the final of the men's 50m butterfly S7 today.

Competing in Heat 1, the 30-year-old finished in the fifth spot with a timing of 33.47, a 10th-spot finish overall. Only the top four swimmers from both the Heats in combine make it to the final.

India’s para-cyclists Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderiya wrapped up their Paris Paralympics journey without any medals, finishing the men's and women's road race C1-3 events a lap behind the leaders on Saturday.

In the women's race, Jyoti Gaderiya finished 15th, one lap behind the leaders. Japan’s Keiko Sugiura claimed the gold, with Flurina Rigling of Switzerland taking silver, and Clara Brown of the United States securing bronze.

In the men’s race, Arshad Shaik finished 28th, also one lap behind. Great Britain's Finlay Graham won the gold, while French riders Thomas Peyroton-Dartet and Alexandre Léauté took silver and bronze, respectively.

Men's Javelin Throw F41 Final: What Went Wrong For Iranian - How India Got Gold

Beit Sayah won gold with a Paralympic Record throw of 47.64m, while Navdeep Singh initially finished second with 47.32m. However, the Iranian athlete was later disqualified for violating rule 8.1 of the International Paralympic Committee’s code of conduct, which addresses “unsporting or improper conduct.”

As a result, Navdeep has been awarded the gold medal. India has now secured 29 medals at the ongoing edition, including seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze.
