The second day of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games witnessed shooter Manu Bhaker opening the medal tally for India with a bronze medal win in the women's 10m air pistol. The table tennis player, Sreeja Akula, advanced to the round of 32 in her Olympic Campaign, while in badminton PV Sindhu started off with a victory in straight games over Maldives' Fathimath Abdul Razzaq in the women's singles group stage match. India's Balraj Panwar progresses to the quarter-finals of the men’s single sculls rowing competition after finishing second in Repechage 2. He clocks 7 minutes 12.41 seconds to finish behind Monaco's Quentin Antognelli who clocked 7:10:00. The first two finishers in each repechage qualify for the quarter-finals, which will be held on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, shooter Ramita Jindal makes up for her mixed team disappointment yesterday by qualifying for the women's individual 10m air rifle final. It is heartbreak for her compatriot Elavenil Valarivan, however, as she misses out on a final spot despite a promising start.

The two-time Olympic medallist Indian shuttler PV Sindhu kicked off her Paris Olympics 2024 campaign with a victory in straight games over Maldives' Fathimath Abdul Razzaq in the women's singles group stage match today.

Sindhu, in her third back-to-back appearance in Olympics, finished her first match of the Games in only 29 minutes to dispatch her lower-ranked opponent 21-9 21-6 in the Group M fixture.

The Australian cyclist Lucas Plapp had to undergo abdominal surgery overnight at a Paris hospital following a hard crash on rain-slicked roads during the Olympic time trial on Saturday, the Australian team said.

"After Tokyo, I was very disappointed. It took me a long time to get over that," Manu Bhaker said on Jio Cinema after her win.

"So really grateful that I could win bronze, maybe (it will be) better next time," she added.
