Game 9 ended in a draw, marking the sixth consecutive draw in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 and the seventh overall. The scores are now tied at 4.5-4.5 each.
In the 14-round match, the winner will need at least 7.5 points to claim the championship.
The 32-year-old Ding Liren won the opening game, while the 18-year-old D Gukesh claimed victory in the third game. The second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth games all ended in draws.
In Game 9, D Gukesh and defending champion Ding Liren played to a draw after 54 moves on Thursday, keeping the scores level at 4.5 points each.
Gukesh tested Liren with a Catalan opening, but despite a brief chance on his 20th move, the position quickly evened out. The game concluded with a rook-and-pawn endgame and bare kings.
There is a rest day between Game 9 and Game 10, giving the players a chance to relax before the next round. The rest day is scheduled for Friday, 6 December.
