Didn’t Really See Bazball In My Two Ashes 2023 Tests: Nathan Lyon Fires Back At England
Australia spinner Nathan Lyon isn't fully convinced about Bazball strategy adopted by England.
And amidst all that, Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon has now fired back at England by claiming that he did not witness any 'Bazball' when he played against them in the two Tests.
Bazball is the strategy adopted by England's cricket team under the leadership of Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum that has seen them gain success in the past one year. However, the first two Ashes 2023 Tests saw the 'Bazball' approach come under serious threat.
Speaking to Sen Cricket, Lyon, who could only play the first two Tests due to injury, claimed that he wasn't really convinced about England's approach. The off-spinner even went on to say that there's a 'lot of smoke and mirrors' with the aggressive approach adapted by England.
“I know everyone keeps talking about BazBall, to be honest, I didn’t really see BazBalla€? throughout my two Tests again them,” said Lyon.
“I’m 2-0 in my Tests against BazBalla€? I look at the Australian cricket team and the batters we’ve had, David Warner for examplea€? I’ve seen him score hundreds in a sessiona€? and that’s off playing an attacking brand of cricket."
“I think there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors with BazBall, if I’m being honest with you, and I feel like if you’re going to play an aggressive brand of cricket anyway, it’s about being able to go up and down in gears and understanding the moments in the game.”
England bounced back in Manchester after the Lord's result did not go their way.
