Than Singh from Rajasthan is one head police constable currently posted at the Red Fort. Apart from his job he teaches slum children. His school is well known. Ask anyone for the ‘Than Singh Ki Pathshala’. The notion of educating the downtrodden youth came into the mind of Than Singh when he saw poor children from nearby places working as rag pickers. He once lived in a slum at J.J. Colony, Meera Bagh. The pathos of the slum dwellers is known to him.

His pathshala was initiated with only four students. Now the number of his students has crossed half century. They all belong to slums, and their parents do not have sufficient money to send their children to school.

The children Than Singh takes to his classes sometimes are delinquent or in the grasp of some injurious habits. DCP Sagar Khalsi joined his hand with Than Singh, and together they admitted more than thirty students into some schools.

Than Singh believes that if one student achieves something out of the ordinary others will be motivated, and there might be healthy competition. Without motivation and education, these children have hardly any chance for a normal life. The only motive of Than Singh behind his effort is to usher in a healthy society.
