In Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, five terrorists were reported killed during an ongoing encounter with security forces, the police confirmed on Friday. The operation is now in its final stage, with authorities working to identify the deceased militants, according to media reports.

The confrontation began on Thursday afternoon in the Samno pocket of the DH Pora area, as part of a joint effort involving the Army's 34 Rashtriya Rifles, 9 Para (elite special forces unit), the police, and the CRPF. Overnight, the village was strategically surrounded, and additional lighting was installed near the encounter site.

In a separate incident on November 15, an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Uri Sector was successfully thwarted. The Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, neutralized the infiltrators during a joint operation dubbed 'Operation Kali.' Remarkably, this marked the second infiltration bid in the same region.

Among the two infiltrators eliminated, the Army identified Bashir Ahmed Malik as a crucial figure in Pakistan-enabled cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, another encounter has broken out between militants and a joint team of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

The officials said ?one ?terrorist has been killed in an ongoing operation in Rajouri district.

The encounter broke out in the morning during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by a joint team of army, police and CRPF in Guller-Behrote area of Budhal tehsil, PTI quoted officials as having said.

The operation was launched after inputs of suspicious movement in the area, it said.

In the gun battle that followed, one terrorist has been killed, ?the report quoted a senior officer ?as having said.

The encounter is underway, it added.
