In a significant development, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh underscored the pivotal role played by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the restoration of peace within the state. Speaking on Thursday, Singh expressed that the counsel provided by these national leaders had ushered in a period of tranquility.

"Our constant reliance on his guidance is unwavering. The resonating statements of PM Modi and Amit Shah within the Parliament have been instrumental in bringing about a newfound peace across Manipur. This is all part of our ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and stabilize the lives of those who were displaced. We are fully committed to embracing the counsel of the Home Minister," shared Biren Singh during his interaction with the press, ANI reported.

Responding to remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi concerning the recent unrest in Manipur, the Chief Minister offered a pointed response. "If he is situated in Ladakh, it would be more fitting for him to address matters related to Ladakh. The question arises – why does Rahul Gandhi shift his focus to Manipur while he is stationed in Ladakh? If he finds himself in Ladakh, he should be discussing Ladakh. The present situation in Manipur has roots that can be traced back to actions undertaken by the Congress. The sanctity of human lives should not be compromised for the sake of political maneuvering," articulated Biren Singh.

During his Independence Day speech delivered from the iconic Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi made a heartfelt appeal for peace in the strife-ridden region of Manipur. He extended a message of solidarity, stating, "The entire nation stands in unity with the people of Manipur. Peace stands as the sole avenue to address all grievances. Both the Central Government and the Manipur state administration are collaboratively striving to expedite the return of peace to the region."

The state of Manipur had been grappling with turmoil for an extensive period spanning four months, starting from May 3. The root cause of the unrest was a series of ethnic clashes between two tribal communities, the Meitis and the Kukis. The tensions arose after the Manipur High Court directed the state government to explore the inclusion of one of these communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
