A ruckus ensued in Lok Sabha on Tuesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, who was the first speaker from the Centre on the no-confidence motion debate, attacked the Congress, saying that the no-confidence motion was, in fact, a “motion of confidence within the Opposition”. Dubey’s attack came amid Opposition uproar over restoring his remarks from yesterday’s parliamentary session.

Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the no-confidence motion, Dubey told the Lower House, "My PM says that this is not a no-confidence motion, this is a motion of confidence within the opposition to see who is supporting whom.”

He attacked former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, saying, "?Why has this (no-confidence motion) been brought? Sonia ji (Gandhi) is sitting here...I think she has to do two things - Bete ko set karna hai aur Damad ko bhent karna hai...That is the base of this Motion."

"This no-confidence motion is against the son of a poor, against a man who gave houses, drinking water, toilets to the people. It is against the poor," he added.

Dubey also raised the issue of the Supreme Court staying Rahul Gandhi's conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname remark case. He said, "The Supreme Court has not given a judgement. It has given a stay order...He is saying that he will not apologise...Secondly, he says "I am not Savarkar" - You can never be Savakar..."

On Monday, Nishikant Dubey made ‘defamatory’ remarks against the Congress on the NewsClick NYT report, alleging links with China. While his remarks were expunged from Parliament records, they were later restored on the House website late evening.

Dubey had alleged that NewsClick is a member of anti-India 'Tukde Tukde' gang, and demanded that the Government investigate the beneficiaries of the fundings.

Congress had written to LS Speaker Om Birla over the allegations levelled by Dubey in the House against some senior Congress leaders and called for referring the matter to the Committee of Privileges for examination and necessary action.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury met Speaker Om Birla on the issue of Dubey's remarks not being expunged from the records, along with Congress MPs Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi, Manickam Tagore and K Suresh, and later discussed it with the INDIA bloc.
