Doncic finished with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists as the Mavericks made it seven straight wins by seeing off the Toronto Raptors 125-118 win on Saturday.
That triple-double was the 79th of Doncic's NBA career, moving him beyond Wilt Chamberlain and James Harden in the league's all-time list.
And the next player ahead of Doncic in the record books is his coach, Kidd, who recorded 107 triple-doubles across his career.
"I guess I've got to sit him," Kidd joked.
"That's an incredible feat for Luka.
"When you talk about his skill set, filling up the stat sheet, he's had two here, he can run them off.
"We always expect him to have a triple-double or we sometimes take him for granted for triple-doubles. I think right now you can see that he's starting to get into a groove."
Doncic reeled off some stylish shots, including several long-range attempts.
And Kidd suggested the Slovenian could even?have made it in the NFL.
"It's just incredible, the ability, the strength to be able to throw it that far," Kidd added.
"He probably could have been a quarterback for the [Dallas] Cowboys."
