Defending champions England responded to their defeat to New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener by thrashing Bangladesh in Dharamsala on Tuesday. Asked to bat first, the Three Lions rode Dawid Malan's sublime 140 off 107 to post 364/9 in 50 overs of two distinct halves. The opener, who hit 16 fours and five sixes, found able support from Jonny Bairstow (52 off 59) and Joe Root (82 off 68) during a knock of the highest order. Once Malan's departure, Bangladesh bowlers managed to control the damage with a brilliant fightback. Yet still, the total proved more than enough for Jos Buttler's men as they dismissed Bangladesh for 227 in 48.2 overs. And the wrecker-in-chief was Reece Topley. Coming in for star all-rounder Moeen Ali, the left-arm pacer registered figures of 4/43 in an inspired spell at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. England will now?head to Delhi for a Sunday meeting with Afghanistan. Bangladesh, who started the tournament with a sprightly win over the Afghans, will travel further south, to Chennai for a date with New Zealand on Friday. 1:41pm: ENG 298/3 - Overs 31-40 Highlights
We saw a masterclass in how to undertake a calculated assault from Malan today. The English are on a rampage here. They are taking it to the next level with some inventive and audacious batting. Root and Malan have unfurled the scoops, ramps and reverse sweeps and they seem to be targeting a 350-plus score here. Meanwhile, Malan is just five short of a splendid century.??

12:07pm: END 128/1 - Overs 11-20 Highlights
England lost Bairstow to Shakib's guile, but they have continued to motor on in trademark fashion. They are a team that likes to play aggressively in every situation, and even more so after the advent of Bazball. Joe Root has joined Malan at the crease and is already scoring at run-a-ball. Bangladesh's spinners need to find a way to either put the brakes on or force a breakthrough.??

9:45am: Head-To-Head

In the last five encounters, England enjoy a 4-1 win record against the subcontinental team. 9:30am:?Weather Conditions

Preview:
Notwithstanding their lopsided warm-up fixture, England and Bangladesh enter the field as equals today. In their rain-affected Guwahati match, England did emerge victorious but the Dharamsala fixture in the tournament proper offers an altogether different setting, and it's difficult to predict a straight outcome. Historically, England have a dominating presence in this particular fixture. That, however, doesn't make the defending champions the outright favourites against one of the presumed minnows of world cricket. ?Consider this, in their ENG vs BAN ICC Cricket World Cup rivalry, it's 2-2 in four meetings so far. Also, England and Bangladesh have had contrasting starts to their respective 2023 ODI World Cup campaigns. While the defending champions suffered a nine-wicket defeat against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, Bangladesh thrashed Afghanistan by six wickets in Dharamsala.
