Five college students were among seven people killed in a fatal car crash in Gujarat's Junagadh, when their vehicle struck a divider and collided with another car.

The incident occurred around 8:00 AM on Monday near Bhanduri village on the Junagadh-Somnath highway.

Police reports indicate that the car carrying the students was speeding when it hit the divider. It flipped onto the opposite lane and crashed into another speeding vehicle. All seven occupants of both cars tragically died on the spot.

The five students were traveling to their college for an exam in one car. The two victims in the other vehicle also lost their lives in the crash. Both cars were completely destroyed in the collision.

Locals immediately called emergency services and both police and rescue teams responded swiftly to the scene, the police said.

Firefighters also arrived to extinguish a blaze that erupted due to the crash.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem at Maliya Government Hospital. The police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kodiyatar confirmed the details of the crash. “At around 8 am today, a collision occurred between a Maruti Celerio and another car near Bhunduri village in Maliya. Seven people lost their lives in the accident. The bodies have been sent to Maliya Government Hospital for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause,” he said, as reported by Desh Gujarat.
